New Afaria Security Manager Announced

Sybase iAnywhere Releases Breakthrough Handheld Security Functionality

Today Sybase announced the release of the new Afaria Security Manager (Filter Driver). This is great news!

As you can see in the press release I’ve been running the betas for quite some time now and I’m really really impressed with how good it works. I couldn’t detect any battery degrade even when running at full encryption AND Exchange Push E-mail. Very good.

The key features are:

Advanced data decryption – Using a breakthrough architecture, all encrypted data is decrypted on-demand only when requested by the application or operating system. This allows the mobile user to have quick entry when logging into the device, since data is no longer being decrypted at login. In addition, as the architecture only re-encrypts changed data, rather than all data, application performance is further maximized along with dramatic improvements in battery life.

Seamless application integration – Encryption and decryption processes can be applied to data used by any application stored on a mobile device, without affecting the usability or execution of the application. This means that an enterprise can confidently secure all confidential, proprietary and/or sensitive data without having to worry about application compatibility.

GPS system interoperability – New functionality prevents locking of a mobile device while a GPS application is operational, so that users can have full use of GPS navigation programs without interruption.

User interface enhancements – An improved file selection user interface on Windows Mobile Pocket PC/Professional devices now includes folder selection and improved sub-directory support so that end users can select additional data for encryption. In addition, alarms and notifications, such as calendar alerts, are now displayed in front of the device lock screen. This allows the end user to view and dismiss notifications without logging into the device.

Temporary password recovery improvements –To handle the varying device form factors, the device lock interface was enhanced to allow easy access to the password recovery system, and to allow end users to place phone calls to the help desk from a locked phone.

Afaria 5.5 Hotfix 69 (mini-servicepack) released

Så kom Afaria 5.5 hotfix 69. Det er næsten som en lille servicepack og den indeholder stortset alle hotfixes til Afaria 5.5. Dejligt!

I vedhæftede release notes kan du også læse mere om, hvad der er nyt, men ganske kort opsummeret så er der følgende:

Remote wipe - Med denne kan en administrator sende en SMS baseret kill-pill der hard resetter til en Afaria klient. Kan også slette hukommelseskort.
Outbound Notifications - Nu også på Windows Mobile Standard (smartphone/non-touch screen) enheder.
Monitors - Nu også på Windows Mobile Standard (smartphone/non-touch screen) enheder.
Security Manager - Opgradering til 256bit nøgler
Afaria Access Control for Microsoft Exchange - Installeres på Exchange (Client Access Server eller Front-End) og giver adgang til Exchange Activesync Server på baggrund af white-list i Afaria. En administrator kan sørge for at kun enheder med Afaria Security Manager kan synkronisere og evt kun på bestemte tidspunkter på dagen.

Husk ALDRIG at installere en hotfix via en Remote Desktop eller Terminal session, men anvend VNC, DameWare eller direkte på maskinen.
Husk også at både server og administrator delen af hotfixes skal installeres.
Forusætningen for at måtte hente og installere en hotfix er at man har en gyldig support og vedligehold aftale. Har du ikke fornyet din endnu, så kontakt Jeanette Nielsson på vores kontor for dette.

Hotfix 41 til Afaria 5.5

Sybase har udsendt dette hotfix, som indeholder flere vigtige elementer

I dette hotfix finder man bl.a. en Configuration Manager Channel der optimerer installationsprocessen.

Der er øget integration mod OneBridge, samt support for Windows Mobile 6.

Der er endvidere fixes rettet mod Security Manageren.

Læs venligst release noterne først.

Dette hotfix retter sig mod Afaria serveren og Admin-delen. Bemærk at servicedelen skal installeres først.

Sybase anbefaler kraftigt at dette hotfix installeres.

Sybase informerer yderligere at man man har oplevet at nogle kunder har installeret en Afaria WM5 klient på en WM6 enhed. Man skal være opmærksom på at dette betyder at Afaria WM5 klienten ikke vil blive opgraderet. Det er nødvendigt at fjerne WM5 klienten på enheden.

Sybase oplyser at basis funktionaliteten vil fungere, men at man ikke supportere dette.

Man anbefaler derfor at man, som altid, tester dette, før en større udrulning. Og som altid anbefales en back-up, idet dette hotfix ikke kan rulles tilbage.
